2008 Youth Service Leadership Academy
Scholarship Application
The 2008 Youth Service Leadership Academy (YSLA) is offered as a track to encourage and equip WV’s emerging youth ages 14-21 for meaningful service in and to their community. Those attending YSLA will gain knowledge and skills designed to strengthen youth service and leadership. This year’s theme is “America’s Youth, America’s Promise”. Most of the YSLA will be lead by some of WV’s best and brightest y9uth leaders. Participants in the Academy will learn how to draw from the projects and experiences of these youth leaders, and how to further develop leadership skills in themselves and others while at the same time strengthening youth and adult partnerships. Participants will learn what other youth are accomplishing in their communities and how this supports the vision of West Virginia’s Promise. Participants will be challenged to take what they have learned back to their communities and put it into practice.
Orientation for the youth Service Leadership Academy begins at 9:00am on Tuesday, July 15, 2008. Young people aged 18 or under must be accompanied by an adult.
Conference Scholarship Eligibility
Scholarships to the 2008 Youth Service Leadership Academy, a part of Faces of Leadership, the statewide conference on volunteerism, national service, and service-learning, are available.
Registration fee is $250.00, scholarship recipients or their organizations are asked to contribute $50 each towards the cost of registration. The scholarship award includes registration (which includes some, but not all meals) and lodging (if needed) on July 15 and 16. Scholarship recipients are expected to participate fully in all parts of the Academy.
