The FIRST EASTERN REGIONAL FORUM was held on May 8, 2007 with forty three participants eager to commit to positive youth development through the Five Promises.
"We are mobilizing communities around the state on behalf of West Virginia's young people."  Championed by First Lady Gayle C. Manchin, West Virginia's Promise trailblazed new territory Tuesday by organizing its first regional state forum, which was intended to clear the roadblocks and increase awareness. The forum was held at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, WV.
"By helping the child grow, Manchin said the promises strengthen the family which leads to a stronger community, the stronger the community the stronger the state".

"We hope the participants in today's forum go back to their respective communities and provide the resources of the Five Promise's," said West Virginia's Promise statewide Director Pamela Dugan, "those promises are the framework for the development of young people."
Richard B. Wells, Vice President of state and community mobilization for America's Promise, encourages others to work together to determine and meet the needs of young people. "The formula for success is bringing people together and identifying the problems," said Wells, who praised the efforts of the First Lady for "ramping up support."
